Lightning's Reading Club challenge is back

MURFREESBORO - Lightning's Reading Club Challenge once again returns for the 2017 school year with a few exciting additions to encourage reading in middle Tennessee elementary schools. The reading program, launched in 2014, issues a challenge from Middle Tennessee mascot, Lightning, to read for 20 minutes a night for 15 days during the month of October.
Elementary students can keep track of their progress on a "reading log", and when completed, turn into their teacher. Each student in participating Rutherford County Schools and Murfreesboro City Schools will then receive a "Lighting's Reading Club Certificate of Achievement", with the bottom half of the certificate redeemable for a complimentary ticket to the Blue Raider football game vs. Old Dominion on November 25.
The MTSU athletic department is also excited to partner with Amazon's Murfreesboro Fulfillment Center to add further incentives and value to the reading challenge. Amazon's Murfreesboro Fulfillment Center also recognizes the importance in reading at a young age and will be providing the following as part of the new 2017 Lightning's Reading Club Challenge:
· Blue Raider Pep Assembly - One Rutherford County School and one Murfreesboro City School will be awarded a Blue Raider pep assemble in early 2018, complete with appearances by our mascot Lightning, MTSU cheerleaders, special giveaways and more. The school awarded the pep assemble will be based on highest percentage of "Lightning's Reading Club" members for the total population of your school
· FREE books - Each child at the winning school (one RCS and one MCS) who completes the Lightning's Reading Club Challenge will receive a FREE book, courtesy of Amazon's Murfreesboro Fulfillment Center
· FREE Amazon Kindles – 6 total eligible students at the winning schools (3 at each school) will also be randomly selected at the pep assembly and receive an Amazon Kindle (student must have completed the Lightning's Reading Club Challenge)
· 100% classroom participation = chance for a $350 Amazon gift card – Let's not forget the teachers! Regardless of what school you are at, if your classroom has a 100% participation/completion rate, you will be entered to win a $350 Amazon gift card to use for classroom supplies/books. Six (6) total winners will be selected from all RCS and MCS eligible teachers
