MT pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts
NASHVILLE, Tenn.— The Blue Raiders dropped their third straight game, falling to Lipscomb 3-2 Wednesday night in Nashville.
In his first career start, freshman Elliott Curtis provided a spark for the Blue Raiders in the third inning by smacking a leadoff single through the right side in his first collegiate at-bat. Later in the inning, senior Riley Delgado ripped a double down the right field line, scoring Curtis. Sophomore Austin Dennis roped a double of his own, scoring Delgado to put MT up 2-0.
The Bisons battled back in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs of their own, which ended up being the difference in the game.
Delgado finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and run in the leadoff spot. Kaleb King continued his hot hitting to start the season, going 2-for-4, increasing his average to .412 on the year.
Redshirt freshman Devin Conn (1-1) picked up the loss in his first career start on the mound, throwing four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out four. Dayton Tripp (1-0) earned the win for the Bisons.
"I thought Devin (Conn) had a good start," said Head Coach Jim McGuire. "He had that one hiccup in the third inning, but overall his velocity was good his breaking ball was good, and his changeup had a lot of movement."
Reid Clements had a solid outing, hurling two scoreless innings, including a career-high five strikeouts.
"I thought Stansberry threw well with two scoreless innings, and then Reid (Clements) came in and threw two scoreless, striking out the last four or five. I couldn't be happier with what the pitching staff did, I'm just disappointed in what we did offensively," stated McGuire.
The Blue Raiders will open their home slate starting Friday to take on Northwestern at 3 p.m. in game one of the Mule Mix Classic. Friday is $1 day at the park, all tickets, hot dogs, and drinks are $1.
All home games will be video streamed through CUSA.tv/RaiderVision. Radio coverage will be provided on 92.3 FM (WMOT 2).
