EL PASO, Texas – Middle Tennessee faces a tough challenge Saturday as the surging UTEP Miners host the Blue Raiders in the historic Don Haskins Center.
The teams have faced off just four times before with each meeting occurring since the Blue Raiders joined Conference USA. The programs have split the series 2-2 with Middle Tennessee winning each of the last two contests while UTEP claimed the only meeting to date in El Paso.
The Blue Raiders won the lone meeting last season in Murfreesboro, 78-72, with the help of a 12-point, 12-rebound performance from Reggie Upshaw.
Giddy Potts paced the MT offense in a 69-59 win against UTSA Thursday night, pouring in 22 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career.
Potts' 15.6 points per game alongside JaCorey Williams (17.3) and Reggie Upshaw (14.5) provide the Raiders nearly 50 points per game while freshman point guard Tyrik Dixon has emerged as a real with a league-best 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio in league play to go along with 9.0 points per outing.
UTEP's Omega Harris checks in at sixth in Conference USA in scoring, averaging just ahead of Williams at 17.5 points per game. Teammate Dominic Artis adds 15.0 points per game and a league-best 6.2 assists per contest.
The Miners enter Saturday's meeting having won five of their last six after a Thursday night win against second-place UAB. UTEP remains unbeaten at home in four league games.
The Blue Raiders and Miners are set to tip at 7:00 p.m. CT on American Sports Network.
