MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee head soccer coach Aston Rhoden announced Wednesday the addition of two more newcomers in the incoming class for the 2017 season in Carolin Englehard and Harriet Jones.
The duo adds to an already strong class that includes nine high school standouts that signed their National Letters of Intent in the February signing period.
Englehard comes to the Blue Raiders from Laatzen, Germany, where she played for VFL Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga and served as the captain of the U-17 team in 2015-16.
While Engelhard has most recently played on the back line, she has played all over the field during her career and will bring great versatility to the MT squad.
"Carolin is a very complete defender," Rhoden said. "She can play as a center back as well as a defensive midfielder. She has strong technical ability, is very good in the air and has keen tactical awareness. Her experience playing at a high level in Germany and her leadership skills will be an asset to our young team."
Jones, a Stinchcombe, England native, spent last season at Indian Hills Community College where she scored five goals and logged seven assists from her position in the midfield to earn All-Region Honorable Mention honors as a freshman.
Prior to her season at IHCC, Jones served as team captain at Rednock School and played five seasons with Bristol City WFC, earning the team captain role in her final season.
"Hattie has a great soccer IQ and a tremendous work ethic," Rhoden stated. "She's a box-to-box midfielder and can finish from distance. Her experience playing at a high level will certainly help our young team and she will be a great addition to a very talented midfield group."
