Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom to be honored
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis is set to host the Dale Short Shootout at the Adams Tennis Complex starting Friday as part of a big weekend for the program.
On Saturday, Blue Raider greats Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom, 2007 NCAA Doubles National Champions, will be inducted in the Blue Raider Hall of Fame and honored at the ATC with a lunch at 1 p.m.
"Honoring Marco and Andreas into the Blue Raider Hall of Fame for their National Doubles Championship is a special occasion. It's a positive reminder to the guys that with hard work, team work and dedication, anything is possible," MT assistant coach Sebastian Rey said. "Marco and Andreas have been great ambassadors of the program, and hopefully this motivates the guys every day in practice."
MT will play Lipscomb on Friday at 2 p.m. following Austin Peay's match with UAB at 9:30 a.m. The Blue Raiders will play at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday against their Conference USA counterpart UAB before honoring Born and Siljestrom. On Sunday, MT closes out the event with a match against Austin Peay at 2 p.m.
Jacob Pugh and Chris Edge will look to continue their perfect singles records this weekend. Joining them in competition this weekend will be Max Rauch, Nicolas Buitrago Machado, Gian Issa and Luis Morillo Diaz.
"This is another great opportunity for our guys to get more matches under their belts before the dual match season," Rey added. "We hope to have lots of fan support this weekend for our first home matches of the season."
