MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After their triumph over WKU, Middle Tennessee is now preparing for a home stand against a pair of Texas opponents in UTSA and UTEP. The Roadrunners come to Murfreesboro on Thursday for a Conference USA matchup with the Blue Raiders, who are hosting Fraternity and Sorority Life Night in the Murphy Center.
Middle Tennessee (14-5, 6-1) has controlled the head-to-head against the Roadrunners since they joined Conference USA, leading 4-1 all-time, including a pair of double-digit wins last season.
UTSA (10-10, 3-4) enters Thursday's meeting coming off a home win over UTEP, 65-61. The Roadrunners had four players in double figures, led by freshman Keaton Wallace who posted 20 points. They also outrebounded the Miners 43-32 including a 10-1 advantage on the offensive glass.
The Blue Raiders hope to keep up with UTSA, who leads C-USA in rebounds per game (40.8), on the glass. The Roadrunners also lead the conference in defensive rebounding (29.3), but it's the Blue Raiders who are near the top of the league in offensive rebounding (11.6), ranking second behind Old Dominion. The Raiders also boast the third-highest rebounding margin (+4.9) in the league.
Senior forward Nick King leads all Blue Raiders with 8.4 rebounds per game, currently ranking sixth in C-USA, but his boosted his rebounding average to 9.6 in league play.
The Blue Raiders will also lean on senior guard Giddy Potts who has come on as the season as progressed. Potts is averaging 15 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field and 41 percent from behind the 3-point line in his last three games to raise his season averages to 13.4 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Members of the Middle Tennessee baseball and softball teams will also be in the Murphy Center before tip-off to hand out 2018 schedule posters, sign autographs and take photos with fans. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast locally and streamed via Stadium.
