Volleyball Set For Midweek Clash at TSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Volleyball (4-11, 0-3) team travels up I-24 for a midweek clash versus Tennessee State (6-8, 4-0) on Tuesday evening in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Tuesday contest marks the 38th meeting between the two programs with the Blue Raiders taking the all-time series over the Tigers, 35-2. Last time out, Middle Tennessee swept Tennessee State in three straight sets in the Alumni Memorial Gym, however the previous season the Tigers grabbed their second win over the Blue Raiders at Kean Hall in four frames.
Scouting the Tennessee State Tigers
Tennessee State is off their best conference start in the programs history, winning all four Ohio Valley Conference contests this season.
The Tigers offense is paced by Julia Pierson (176) and Rachel Henderson (169) who have posted a combined 345 kills this season. Meanwhile, Gina Rivera Ortiz controls the TSU defense, averaging 4.60 digs per set.
Hammill, Mason lead the Blue Raiders versus Southern Mississippi
Junior setter Taylor Hammill and senior outside hitter Bailey Mason, lead the Blue Raiders in their first home Conference USA contest of the season.
Despite the team's loss on Sunday, Hammill inked her second double-double of the season, notching 30 assists and 15 digs in the three-set match. Similarly, Mason paced the Middle Tennessee attack, recording 11 kills while adding three service aces.
The two are represented among the C-USA leaders with Hammill ranking 13th among conference foes in assists per set (6.72). Meanwhile, Mason represents the Blue Raiders in three of the seven top-20 categories in kills per set (15th, 3.08), service aces per set (T-6th, 0.34) and points per set (13th, 3.63).
