Blue Raiders force five turnovers in victory

MT rolls past ODU, 51-17
On the Monarchs' homecoming, MT found its offensive rhythm and forced five turnovers, three in the red zone, to leave with a dominating 51-17 win.
The Blue Raiders (5-3, 4-1) are now 3-0 all-time against ODU (2-7, 1-5) and kept pace half a game behind FIU for the C-USA East Division lead.
It was all Middle Tennessee from the start, as it jumped to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter before the Monarchs finally got on the board with 34 seconds left in the frame.
ODU cut the lead to 17-10 with a field goal early in the second quarter, but that's as close as it would get.
MT redshirt senior quarterback Brent Stockstill capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 3:18 left in the first half, and as time expired in the quarter, sophomore safety Reed Blankenship picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a TD.
The pick six was tied for the longest in program history and brought the halftime score to 31-10, putting Middle Tennessee in cruise control in the second half.
A couple of long Stockstill TD passes, one for 70 yards and another for 39, pushed the lead further out of reach to 45-10 in the third quarter.
ODU's defense, which went into the game giving up 514 yards and 38.5 points per game to rank in the bottom 10 of FBS teams, had no answer for the Blue Raider offense. MT finished with 488 total yards, setting a new season high for total offense and rushing yards (208).
Stockstill finished 25-of-32 passing for 280 yards and three total TDs (two passing), with Gatlin Casey catching four balls for 90 yards and a TD and Ty Lee grabbing five passes for 69 yards and a score. Junior Terelle West paced the rushing attack with 13 attempts for 120 yards and a TD.
It wasn't all offense for Middle Tennessee, though. Its defense may have given up 520 total yards, but it forced five turnovers that led to 20 points, the most critical being the Blankenship pick-six that turned a potential 24-17 halftime score into 31-10.
Wesley Bush also had a pick-six of 37 yards in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the game.
Blankenship finished with a career-high 15 total tackles to lead the team and also had a sack and three tackles for loss to go with the pick. Graduate defensive back Cordell Hudson added an interception and forced fumble, which was recovered by Khalil Brooks.
The victory sets up Middle Tennessee with a two-game winning streak heading into a rivalry matchup with WKU (1-6, 0-3). The game will be played on Friday night, Nov. 2, at Floyd Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
