MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After facing top-level competition in the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Blue Raider men's basketball team returns home Saturday to host the Lipscomb Bisons.
Middle Tennessee squared off against No. 4 Virginia, Butler, and Stanford while in the Bahamas, succumbing to the trio of power conference teams but bringing plenty of valuable experience back to Murphy Center.
After the tournament, a balanced scoring attack features five Blue Raiders averaging more than nine points per game with junior Antonio Green leading the team at 18.
Senior James Hawthorne returned from the Bahamas with a combined 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 7 blocks across three games while freshman Junior Farquhar collected a team-high eight steals and fellow rookie Jayce Johnson totaled 27 points on the week, the second most on the team.
The Bisons are currently riding a three game winning streak that includes a statement victory at No. 18 TCU last week. This will be the fourth road game in five outings for Lipscomb, who holds a 3-0 road record this season.
Garrison Mathews is the team leader with 18.5 points per game, but the Bisons boast two others averaging double-figures. One of the two, Kenny Cooper, has been one of the top defenders in the country with 16 steals this season.
Despite facing off 51 times in the history of the series with MT holding a 32-19 advantage, the Blue Raiders and Bisons are meeting for just the second time this century after MT won a 68-62 decision in 2007. Middle Tennessee has won five in a row in the series dating back to 1961.
