MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's basketball closes out its non-conference schedule Sunday as the Rhode Island Rams host the Blue Raiders at 4:00 p.m. inside Ryan Center.
The Blue Raiders (3-9) are coming off a short break for the Christmas holiday after suffering a loss to SEC foe Ole Miss at Bridgestone Arena last time out. Junior Antonio Green led his squad in that outing with 22 points while Reggie Scurry (13) and Jayce Johnson (12) joined Green in double figures.
Green's 18.3 points per game rank eighth among Conference USA members so far this season while he is also among the league and nation's best in free throw percentage, knocking down 31 of 35 (.886) attempts from the charity stripe this season.
The Rams (6-5), who are also closing out their non-conference slate Sunday before entering Atlantic 10 play, were competing in the Diamond Head Classic over the Christmas holiday while the Blue Raiders took advantage of a much-needed rest period.
Rhode Island went 1-2 in Honolulu, falling to Bucknell by two in the opener and Hawaii by eight in the finale sandwiched around a 14-point win against Conference USA member Charlotte.
Jeff Dowtin leads a trio of high-scoring Rams at 16.6 points per game and also dishes out 4.0 assists per outing. Cyril Langevine adds 15.4 points and a team-high 10.5 rebounds per game while Fatts Russell pitches in with 14.6 points per outing and boasts a team-high 20 steals in 11 games.
Middle Tennessee and Rhode Island are meeting for the first time in the history of the programs when they face off Sunday on ESPN+. The teams will conclude the home and home series next winter in Murfreesboro.
