Hayes honored as C-USA Player of the Week

Averaged 19.5 points in Fordham Classic
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A'Queen Hayes turned in a pair of dynamic performances at the Fordham Holiday Classic to close out 2018.
In return, Hayes was honored as the Conference USA Player of the Week for the first time Monday.
The incomparable Hayes was fascinating in the two-day Classic, averaging 19.5 points, seven rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals on her way to All-Tournament honors.
"It's a great honor to be recognized by Conference USA," Hayes said. "This is a very good league with so many talented players so I truly appreciate being considered in that company."
In the process of turning in two solid outings in the Bronx, Hayes also surpassed the 1,000-point milestone of her career with 18 points in the win against Chattanooga.
Hayes led the Lady Raiders (9-4) in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and minutes played at the Fordham Holiday Classic, logging 40 minutes in both outings. She started the Classic strong with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals to help lead Middle Tennessee to a 58-47 win against its in-state rival.
Hayes was equally impressive in the championship game against host Fordham, with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
"A'Queen Hayes is a solid guard and she stepped her game up in the tournament," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "She has been steady for us throughout non-conference play and continues to improve with every game."
This is the fourth C-USA weekly honor for Middle Tennessee this season with Hayes and Alex Johnson being named Player of the Week once each, and Taylor Sutton being named Freshman of the Week twice.
Overall, this is the 66th conference player of the week winner under Insell with 28 coming in Conference USA and 38 in the Sun Belt.
C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World and selected by a 14-person voting panel.
