JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team (12-3) got back to its winning ways on Thursday with a 4-3 win in comeback fashion over North Florida on the road.
For the third time this season, the Blue Raiders were forced to come from behind after dropping the first point in the match. MT is now 3-0 when losing the doubles point. Despite the No. 1 and 3 pairs losing, Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore and Miguel Negre Fernandez improved to 8-1 in dual matches with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
The Ospreys extended their lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win at No. 3, but Luis Morillo Diaz put the Blue Raiders on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court six. Gian Issa is now one win away for a share of the eighth most singles wins in program history after a 7-6, 6-3 triumph today at No. 5.
MT got their first lead in the match thanks to Negre's three-set come-from-behind victory at No. 4, but North Florida fought back to tie the match after winning at the top spot in the lineup. Morell clinched the fifth Blue Raiders' road win of the season with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 on court two.
The Conference USA Pod is next on the schedule for the Blue Raiders, hosted at the Adams Tennis Complex. MT takes on No. 26 Old Dominion (March 16), Charlotte (March 17) and Florida Atlantic (March 18).
