NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's focus has shifted this week to Vanderbilt for its final midweek game of the season.
The two schools met back on April 3, when the Blue Raiders defeated the Commodores in a rain-shortened contest at Reese Smith Jr. Field, 4-3.
Aaron Aucker and Blake Benefield combined for five hits that night against the Commodores, driving in three of the four Blue Raider runs.
MT will look for its one- and two-hole hitters to continue to be a factor in the batter's box and on the base paths. LA Woodard and Austin Dennis combined for 10 runs in the most previous weekend series versus Florida Atlantic, more than half of the runs scored for the Raiders during the series. The speedy duo also combined for 11 hits and 14 total bases.
For the Commodores, they are led offensively by freshman Austin Martin. The leadoff hitter bats .322 and leads the team in stolen bases, being successful on 19-of-27 attempts.
Out of the bullpen, lefty Zach King has been Vandy's workhorse. King leads the team in appearances with 17 and sports a 3.62 ERA with three saves.
Vanderbilt is only 1-4 versus non-SEC schools in Tennessee this season, losing to Belmont, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee and Tennessee Tech.
First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Catch the action on the SEC Network+ or hear the call on 100.5/101.9 WGNS or the TuneIn App.
