MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – First year Head Baseball Coach Jim Toman has announced the hiring of Kyle Bunn to the Middle Tennessee staff.
Bunn will serve as the associate head coach, as well as pitching coach for the Blue Raiders.
"I am excited to announce the addition of Kyle Bunn as our Associate Head Coach and Pitching Coach," Toman said. "Coach Bunn is going to bring a high level of energy and knowledge to our Blue Raider pitching staff. He also brings a dynamic level of recruiting nationally. We are extremely excited about the addition of Coach Bunn."
Bunn brings with him 16 years of Division I coaching experience. In those 16 years, Bunn has produced 56 pitchers selected in the MLB Draft (16 of those in the first 5 rounds).
"I look forward to the journey ahead at Middle Tennessee State University," Bunn said. "I'm humbled to have the opportunity to work alongside Coach Toman. He has been a staple in college baseball for many years, and I have no doubt he is going to do great things with this baseball program."
Bunn makes the move to Murfreesboro after spending the last four seasons as the Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach for Indiana. In those four years, Bunn and the Hoosiers made three trips to an NCAA Regional (2015, 2017, 2018). Last season, the Hoosiers finished 7th nationally in ERA (3.08), and 1st in the Big 10 Conference. In 2016, Indiana finished 11th nationally in ERA (3.09).
Prior to Indiana, Bunn spent three seasons at East Tennessee State. His pitching staff in 2012 set several school records including fewest walks, and lowest opponent batting average. They also struck out 356 batters which marked the second most in program history. In 2013, the Buccaneers won the Atlantic Sun Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1981.
In his one season at Alabama, the Crimson Tide won the 2010 NCAA Atlanta Regional and was the runner up in the SEC Tournament.
At Clemson, the Tigers made the NCAA Super-Regionals in 2009 with the pitching staff ranked fifth nationally with an earned-run average of 3.68.
Bunn spent six seasons with Ole Miss. During this time, Bunn saw 16 of his pitchers taken in the MLB Draft.
As a player, Bunn was a three-year letter winner for The Citadel Bulldogs, earning the team's Ace Pitching Award in 1999. He helped The Citadel to back-to-back Southern Conference Tournament titles in both 1998 and 1999, and a regular season championship in 2000.
