MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- Five Blue Raider baseball players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Seniors Tyler Minnick and David Horn Jr., redshirt juniors Cooper Clapp and Brett Vondohlen, paired with true junior John Michael Pickens were all named as Blue Raider recipients.
Minnick had a career-year behind the dish, earning a Second team All-CUSA selection to pair with his second straight CUSA All-Academic team nomination. The Smyrna, Georgia native capped off his Blue Raider career with a 43-game on-base streak, while leading CUSA in runners thrown out from behind the plate.
In Horn Jr.'s first campaign as a Blue Raider, the right-hander elevated himself to become Middle Tennessee's Friday night starter. Horn Jr. accumulated 82 strikeouts across 72.0 innings, with some big outings including seven innings of one-run ball in an 8-1 win over Liberty to take home CUSA and TSWA Pitcher of the Week awards.
Clapp exploded onto the scene in his second year in Murfreesboro, leading the team with 12 home runs and a .975 OPS. The team's everyday second baseman, Clapp took home two Raiders' Choice Awards for Male Breakout Athlete of the Year and Play of the Year for a walkoff double to win game one of the series against St. Bonaventure.
Vondohlen held down third base for the Blue Raiders in his fourth year on campus, starting all 57 games this season. The right-handed slugger belted seven home runs, bringing his career total to 29 bombs.
A junior southpaw, Pickens quickly became a staple of the Blue Raider bullpen as a go to arm in tight situations. Across 26 appearances, Pickens carried a 3.86 ERA in 42.0 innings for the Blue Raiders. The Hueytown, Alabama product picked up two wins and two saves for Middle Tennessee.
