Murfreesboro, Tenn.—Middle Tennessee played the second of its three fall exhibitions and the first of a two-game home-and-home with in-state foe Tennessee Tech, winning 15-11 in a scheduled 18-inning contest.
Outfielders Konner Bowden and Alex Bedford capped off a great weekend, offensively. Following a 3-for-5 day against North Alabama on Friday, Bowden had another two RBIs, stolen base and three hits against the Golden Eagles. Alex Bedford hit a home run in the eighth inning as part of a two-RBI effort on the afternoon. The right fielder finished the game 1-for-4 with a pair of walks and scored an additional two runs aside from his home run.
Freshman catcher Chris Brown had two hits, a walk and scored two runs. Jaxon Walker had a hit, drew two walks and scored twice. Tommy Baker scored two runs and drove in a pair. Middle infielder Matt Wolfe had two hits and two RBIs. Catcher Jaxon Junilla also had a two-rbi double in the bottom of the 18th.
Middle Tennessee had 10 pitchers get work in over the 18-inning affair. Starter Cole Torbett surrendered just one hit and with three strikeouts and right-hander Jonny Stevens followed him up with a four-strikeout effort in two innings of work.
Both teams combined for 39 hits, four home runs and eight extra-base hits.
The Skipper Speaks (Jerry Meyers)
"We have to make these games a learning experience all the way throughout," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jerry Myers. "We can't just pass over the things that we did do well, we have to use that just as strongly for the teaching points on things we didn't do well at. We did enough good things today to continue to build on. It's hard sometimes to stay locked in through as many at-bats when it's several hours between the first and last at-bat. We did a good job of not walking guys and got out of a few jams. I'm pleased with the overall effort."
Player Perspective (#11 SO. OF Alex Bedford)
"I got two strikes on myself pretty quickly," Bedford said of the at-bat in which he hit his home run. "I spread out when I have two strikes on me and try to put a good swing on it. I put a good enough swing and barrelled up that pitch and luckily enough it went out. (I've) wanted to work on getting out on higher velocity pitches and staying in front of those and spraying balls gap-to-gap, which I feel like I've done really well with so far, but there's always room to improve."
Up next: Middle Tennessee will continue fall workouts through the conclusion of the fall schedule on October 18th at Quillen Field in Cookeville against Tennessee Tech.
