FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After a blistering start to the season, Middle Tennessee women's golf cooled off Friday as it struggled in the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship with a score of 15-over par 303.
Senior Hanley Long and sophomore Sophie Burks led the way for the Blue Raiders on day one, posting matching rounds of 2-over 74 to land in a tie for 38th individually through 18 holes.
As the day neared its end with only six groups remaining on the course the tournament went into a short rain delay before play finished up at Vanderbilt Legends Club.

"I think we came out a little tight today trying to force some things and the golf course was not forgiving. We were not as mentally tough as we need to be and as a result compounded some mistakes with more on top of them. We have two more rounds to bounce back, play to our strengths and minimize the mistakes." – Head Coach Chris Adams
