Blue Raiders Trek North for Hampton Inn-vitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee volleyball treks north to the Hampton Inn-vitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Blue Raiders will play three matches over a two-day span versus Coppin State, Quinnipiac and tournament host Bryant.
The Blue Raiders will meet each team for their first all-time matchup this weekend.

Middle Tennessee enters the contest after a three-match setback at the Blue Raider Bash. Despite the loss, senior Bailey Mason had a career-best performance over the weekend, recording her first double-double of the season. The Forsyth, Ill. native inked 19 digs and 17 kills in the match against Stetson to earn Blue Raider Bash All-Tournament Team accolades.
Middle Tennessee Freshmen, Earning a Spot on the Court
Freshman middle blocker, Julia Valdez finds her rhythm from the middle position for the Blue Raiders. Valdez, a freshman starter, inks the highest hitting percentage on the team (.310) with a minimum of three attacks per set. The Midlothian, Texas native marks the only freshman in the top-20 best hitting percentages in the conference, tied for 11th alongside Hannah Froeschi from UTSA.
Meanwhile, freshman setter Sarah Sumida has also been a key part of the Blue Raider offense. Sumida averages 9.62 assists per set to rank fifth among conference competitors. Likewise, Samira Lawson Body also makes her mark in the top-20 C-USA competitors in service aces per set (0.31), ranking 19th.
The Blue Raiders are one of two schools in the conference who have three or more freshman in top-20 statistical categories.
