Blue Raiders Sweep Home Opening Doubleheader

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee kicked off the program's 50th season in impressive fashion as they swept Austin Peay and Chattanooga at the Adams Tennis Complex on Wednesday. In total, the Blue Raiders won four doubles matches and 12 singles matches on the day in two victories.
In the first match against Austin Peay, MT clinched the doubles point with wins from Chris Edge/Tom Moonen and Daniel Stormon/Stijn Slump. Pavel Motl/Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore were leading their match 5-3, but did not finish. The Blue Raiders proceeded to win every singles match in straight sets to cap off the 7-0 victory.
The nightcap went similar to the first game, with MT winning the doubles point behind winning efforts from Francisco Rocha/Max Rauch and Motl/Morell. Edge/Moonen were tied 4-4 in their match, but did not finish. The Mocs posed more of a challenge for MT with three matches being decided by a tiebreak point or third set. Notably, Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore fought back from a 2-6 defeat in the first set to win 6-2 in the second and win the third set tiebreak 10-7.

The Blue Raiders will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, this weekend to compete in the VT Invite. This will be in individual competition with no team score recorded, but will give the Blue Raiders some strong completion early in the season.
