Women's Tennis Falls in Both Matches at ITA Kickoff

AUSTIN, TEX. – Middle Tennessee women's Tennis suffered two losses at the ITA Kickoff Weekend Friday and Saturday against Texas and Wichita State at the Texas Tennis Center.
Middle Tennessee (1-3, 0-0 C-USA) opened Saturday's match against No. 6 Texas (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) losing the doubles point. Kim Kermet / Luisa Zirilli battled in a tight match but fell 7-5 in tiebreaker giving the Longhorns the point.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders fell quickly as No. 6 Texas made easy work of the competition finishing out the match while three matches left unfinished. Luisa Zirilli battled tightly in the #6 singles spot against No. 63 Tijana Spasojevic 6-4, 1-2, but they were not able to finish.
Sunday afternoon in Austin, Costanza Magazzini / Zani Barnard duo took the first doubles match in dominate fashion but Kim Kermet / Luisa Zirilli would fall in a heartbreaking tiebreaker to Wichita State (1-1, 0-0 AAC) Saidhujaeva/Thebault, 7-6 (7-5) giving the Shockers 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Lidia Burrows came out victorious against Marta Bellucco defeating her 6-2, 6-4, but the Blue Raiders could not take any more points. Four of the six matches went to either three sets or tiebreakers. Middle Tennessee hadn't lost three straight matches since March 24th-March 31st in 2017 against Memphis, VCU and Tulane.
Up Next
The Blue Raiders will look to bounce back on the road as they head to Florida this weekend to match up against FGCU on Friday at 10 a.m. and USF on Saturday at 11 a.m before heading back to the 'boro.
