Women's Tennis Drop First Match in Florida Road Trip

FORT MYERS, FL. – Middle Tennessee Women's Tennis falls 5-2 to FGCU on the first part of the Florida road trip Friday at FGCU Tennis Complex.
Middle Tennessee (1-4, 0-0 C-USA) opened Friday's match against FGCU (2-2, 0-0 ASUN) losing the doubles point. Lee Barnard / Lidia Burrows battled in a tight match but did not finish tying it at 5-5 after the Eagles claimed the doubles point.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders fell quickly early on as FGCU clinched the win after winning three singles matches straight. Luisa Zirilli forced her match to a third set where she won in exciting fashion on a tiebreaker (6-3, 3-6, 11-9). Junior, Marta Peris Herrero fell in the first set but battled back to a third set to claim her first singles win of the season (3-6, 6-3, 10-7).

The Blue Raiders will look to bounce back as they finish up their Florida road trip as they head to Tampa to match up against USF on Saturday at 11 a.m. before heading back to the 'Boro.
