Volleyball to Face Marshall and Rice

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team is home for the third time this season to take on Marshall at 6 p.m. CT Friday in Alumni Memorial Gym, and will also travel to Houston, Texas to face the Rice Owls Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders look to claim their first C-USA win as they head into the weekend, after falling to WKU and UAB last weekend. MT has a 6-11 overall record, and are 0-3 in the league. The Blue Raiders fell to WKU in four sets, as well as UAB by scores of 25-21, 13-25, 19-25, 18-25. Freshman Kayla Henley led the attacks against UAB with a total 15 kills on the match. Taylor Hammill is one assist away from the 2,000 career-assists mark, which she plans on meeting in Friday's match.
Scouting the Opponent
Marshall
The Herd is 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference after defeating Charlotte last weekend in four sets and falling to WKU in three.
One player to watch is Ciara Debell who leads the Herd offense with a total 250 kills on the season, averaging 4.17 kills per set. She also has 147 digs on the season. Amber Weber leads the team in digs on the season with 278 total, averaging 4.63 digs per set, and Isa Dostal has 81.0 blocks on the year, 11 solo and 70 block assists. The team is ranked third in the conference behind both WKU and Rice.
The Herd leads 9-2 in the overall series between the two teams, and in their last meeting the Blue Raiders fell to the Marshall in three sets on October 14, 2018.
Rice
The Owls head into the weekend 14-1 on the season and 3-0 in the league. Last weekend, Rice faced UTSA and claimed a 3-0 win, and then had a bye on Sunday. The team is currently second in the conference behind WKU.
Nicole Lennon is one player to watch as she has a team leading 263 kills on the season and 173 digs. Lee Ann Cunningham leads the team in digs with a total 247 on the year, averaging 4.75 digs per set. As a team, Rice is ranked first in the conference in assists per set, as well as kills per set.
In the overall series between Rice and MT, the Owls lead 6-2. In their last meeting, Rice defeated MT in three sets on October 5, 2018 in Murfreesboro.

- Dora Peonia has led the team attacks on five occasions and has recorded eight double-doubles on the season.
- Urte Neimantaite dished out a career-high 19 kills against Tennessee Tech and has one double-double. She has also led the team attacks on seven occasions.
- Taylor Hammill is one assist away from hitting the 2,000 assists mark. She has also recorded seven double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked 20th in the nation for total assists and third in the conference for assists per set.
- Hammill has a season-high 52 assists and 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley is 46 digs away from the 1,000 digs mark with 954 total. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 24 digs against Southern Illinois. Tankesley co-leads the team in aces with a total 18 on the season.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton has a total 18 aces on the year and an average 0.41 aces per set.
- Amalie Jorgensen leads the team in blocks with 48.0.
