Burks, Caudill eyeing Top 10 entering round two in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Middle Tennessee opened up the Cardinal Cup on Friday with a team round of 15-over 303 landing them in 10th place thru 18 holes while a pair of Blue Raiders rank just outside the Top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
The Raiders led the field of 17 teams thru 12 holes before a tough stretch to close the day in which they went 12-over par saw them drop down a packed top end of the team standings.
"We just gave too many shots back at the end of the day, we had it going and just didn't finish," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We like the course, the greens are fast and the weather is cool but good."
Juniors Caroline Caudill and Sophie Burks will each enter round two with their eyes set on the Top 10 in a field of 95 golfers despite closing their days on a slightly sour note.
The upperclassmen each carded rounds of 1-over par 73 on the day and are five strokes back of the individual leader in a tie for 11th place.
Sophomores Catherine Caudill (+6) and Madison Smith (+7) are the next two of the Blue Raider bunch while freshman Madison Smith closed out the day at 11-over.
Freshman Taylor Edlin, making her collegiate debut as an individual, matched Smith with anoather round of 7-over par for the day.
The Blue Raiders' open the day Saturday with Bebelaar leading the way at 9:50 a.m. on hole 10 while Edlin will go off in the individual slot at 11:00 a.m. on hole 10.
"Sophie and Caroline both had a good day but wanted a little bit more with their finishes as well," Adams added. "We are going to go out tomorrow and leave it all on the course looking to make a move."
