Volleyball Drops Four Set Match to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to UAB in four sets Sunday afternoon by scores of 25-21, 13-25, 19-25, 18-25. The Blue Raiders fall to 6-11 on the season and 0-3 in the conference, while the Blazers improve to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Freshman Kayla Henley led the team attacks with a total 15 kills on the match. Senior Bri Tankesley led the defense, tallying 17 total digs and also recorded six assists. Taylor Hammill recorded her seventh double-double on the year with 39 assists and 15 digs. Hammill is now one assist away from reaching 2,000 career-assists. Freshman middle blocker Amalie Jorgensen also finished with double digit kills, recording 10 total on the match.
Set-By-Set
The Blazers got to a 10-5 lead in set one before the Blue Raiders went on a 4-0 run to come within one, 10-9. A Henley kill abd UAB attacking error allowed the Blue Raiders to tie it up 11-11, followed by a kill from Dora Peonia to take the lead. MT went on another 3-0 run to take a 15-12 lead, and held on to the lead until the end of the set. A kill from Henley sealed the deal for the Blue Raiders, taking set one 25-21. Henley led the attacks in set one, tallying a total eight kills.
In set two, UAB took a 3-0 lead that was interrupted by a Peonia kill. The Blazers kept a small lead at the beginning of the set, but went on a 6-0 lead at 16-12 to lead by 10. The Blazers claimed set two 25-13 with kill. Tankesley led the defense in set two, tallying seven digs total.
The Blue Raiders scored the first point in set three, but UAB took the lead with an ace, and continued on a 5-0 run to take a 7-1 lead. MT continued to fight, but the Blazers claimed the set 25-19.
In the fourth set, the score was tied a total four times, with the last time being at 5-5. From there, UAB took the lead and went on a 4-0 run, bring the score to 9-5. Back-to-back kills from Neimantaite and Jorgensen brought the Blue Raiders within one, 10-9, but the Blazers continued to lead and took the set, 25-18 and the match.

- Urte Neimantaite dished out a career-high 19 kills against Tennessee Tech and has one double-double. She has also led the team attacks on seven occasions.
- Taylor Hammill is one assist away from hitting the 2,000 assists mark. She has also recorded seven double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked 20th in the nation for total assists and third in the conference for assists per set.
- Hammill has a season-high 52 assists and 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley is 46 digs away from the 1,000 digs mark with 954 total. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 24 digs against Southern Illinois. Tankesley leads the team in aces with a total 18 on the season.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton is ranked fourth in the conference for service aces per set. She has a total 18 aces and an average 0.41 aces per set.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 47.0.
