Volleyball Falls to WKU in C-USA Quarterfinals, 3-0

HOUSTON, Texas – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to No. 19 Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Quarterfinals Friday afternoon in three sets by scores of 14-25, 14-25, 15-25. The Blue Raiders finish the season with a 13-17 overall record, which is the most program wins since 2013.
Sophomore Samira Lawson Body led the Blue Raiders in kills, tallying seven kills in the three sets. Senior Taylor Hammill recorded an impressive five kills and finished with 18 total assists. Freshman Amalie Jorgensen also tallied five kills and finished with a .556 hitting percentage.
Set-By-Set
The Lady Toppers got to a 5-0 lead in set one before a kill from freshman Kayla Henley put a Blue Raider point on the board. MT went on a 2-0 run after a WKU ball handling error and a kill from Jorgensen, bringing the Lady Topper lead to 9-5. WKU continued to lead the rest of the set, eventually claiming it 25-14. Lawson Body led the attacks, finishing the set with three kills.
The Blue Raiders took the first lead in set two, 2-0 after back-to-back Lady Topper attacking errors, but WKU tied it up 3-3 and continued to take the lead. MT continued to fight, but the Lady Toppers took the set 24-14 with a kill.
In set three, the two teams battled point-for-point at the start, with the Blue Raiders taking a 9-7 lead at one point. However, WKU went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-9 lead, holding on to the lead the rest of the set. Despite a tough battle, MT dropped set three to WKU, 25-15 and the match.

- Team Notes
Dora Peonia has led the team attacks on 15 occasions and has recorded 13 double-doubles on the season. She also recorded a career-high 23 kills against Marshall, and a career-high .636 hitting percentage against UT Martin. - Urte Neimantaite tallied a career-high 19 kills on two occasions, against Tennessee Tech and Marshall. She has one double-double on the season and has led the team attacks on nine occasions.
- Neimantaite is ranked 10th in the conference for her average 3.23 kills per set.
- Taylor Hammill recorded her 2,000th career-assist against Marshall on October 11. She has also recorded 12 double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked fourth in the conference for her 9.95 assists per set.
- Hammill recorded a season-high 52 assists on two occasions and a season-high 18 digs, and is tied for third on the team with 21 total service aces on the year.
- Bri Tankesley recorded her 1,000th dig against UT Martin on October 22. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 26 digs against Marshall.
- Tankesley is also ranked seventh in the conference for her average 3.67 digs per set, and is second on the team in service aces with 24 total.
- Amalie Jorgensen nearly doubled her career-high blocks against North Texas, finishing with 11 total on the match.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton leads the team in service aces with 27 total on the year.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 98.0 total, and is tied for third on the team in service aces with 21.
