Guard averaged 18.5 points in two wins
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Aislynn Hayes earned her first career start against Tennessee Tech and turned in two dynamic performances for the Lady Raiders last week.
Monday, she was honored as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
Hayes averaged 18.5 points and four rebounds, while also blistering the nets to the tune of 50 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point range in two Lady Raider wins. The freshman guard was a force all over the court as she also averaged four steals and 3.5 assists.
"I am appreciative of the recognition from Conference USA," Hayes said. "I feel like I am adjusting well and it's a great feeling to be able to help the team have success. We are growing as a team. I feel we are getting better with every practice and every game."
Hayes responded strongly in her first career start as she poured in a game-high 22 points against Tennessee Tech. She was 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She was a stat sheet stuffer, collecting six rebounds, four steals and three assists against no turnovers.
"Aislynn has played well in all of the games and she continues to grow as a player," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We are proud of her development. Aislynn comes in to practice each day with a great desire to improve and you can see that in her all-around game."
Hayes followed her Tennessee Tech performance with another solid effort against Southern Conference favorite Furman with 15 points to go with four assists and four steals. She scored 10 of her 15 points in the first quarter to help separate the Lady Raiders at the outset. She also played a season-high 37 minutes against Furman.
Conference USA Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week are chosen by a vote of the league's 14 communications directors. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
