Volleyball Claims Four Set Match Against LA Tech

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team defeated LA Tech in four sets Sunday afternoon by scores of 11-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23. The Blue Raiders improve to 12-13 on the season and 5-5 in the conference, while the Lady Techsters fall to 12-12 overall and 2-8 in the league.
Senior Dora Peonia finished with a team high 12 kills on the match and three service aces. Freshman Amalie Jorgensen had eight kills total and no errors, finishing with an impressive .615 hitting percentage. Taylor Hammill also finished with no hitting errors and four kills to finish with a .571 hitting percentage. Hammill recorded her 12th double-double on the season with 38 assists and a team leading 18 digs, as well as three service aces. Freshman defensive specialist Marley Banton recorded 13 digs and two service aces on the match.
Set-By-Set
The Lady Techsters got to a 3-0 start in the first set after three Blue Raider errors, but MT came back and tied it up 3-3 after a kill from Urte Neimantaite and two LA Tech errors. LA tech took back the lead and at 10-6, they went on a 5-0 run to lead 15-6. The Lady Techsters held on to the lead, and eventually claimed the set 25-11.
The Blue Raiders came back fighting in set two, taking their first lead of the match at 2-1. The Lady Techsters tied it up a few times before MT broke off and took a 16-10 lead with a Peonia kill. The Blue Raiders went on a 4-0 run at 20-15, and claimed the set 25-17 with a kill by Mikaela Weidmann.
In set three, the Lady Techsters took the first point of an MT attacking error, but the Blue Raiders quickly stole the lead. The last tied score was 8-8 when MT went on a 5-0 run to lead 13-8. The Blue Raiders then went on another 3-0 run that included a Banton service ace and two LA Tech attacking errors, giving them a 16-9 lead. A Neimantaite kill gave the Blue Raiders set point, and a Peonia kill sealed the deal. MT claimed set three 25-18.
MT got to a 6-0 lead in the start of set four before the Lady Techsters scored one, and then continued on to a 13-5 lead. LA Tech started to fight back and came within four at 18-14, but the Blue Raiders went on a run and took a 21-15 lead. The Lady Techsters went on a 5-0 run to come within one at 24-23, but a LA Tech service error gave MT the set, 25-23 and the match.

The Blue Raiders will travel to Texas this weekend to face UTEP Friday evening at 7 p.m. CT, and UTSA on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.

- Urte Neimantaite tallied a career-high 19 kills on two occasions, against Tennessee Tech and Marshall. She has one double-double on the season and has led the team attacks on nine occasions.
- Neimantaite is ranked 10th in the conference for her average 3.23 kills per set.
- Taylor Hammill recorded her 2,000th career-assist against Marshall on October 11. She has also recorded 12 double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked third in the conference for her 10.08 assists per set.
- Hammill recorded a season-high 52 assists on two occasions and a season-high 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley recorded her 1,000th dig against UT Martin on October 22. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 26 digs against Marshall.
- Tankesley is also ranked eighth in the conference for her average 3.80 digs per set, and is second on the team in service aces with 21 total.
- Amalie Jorgensen nearly doubled her career-high blocks against North Texas, finishing with 11 total on the match.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton leads the team in service aces with 22 total on the year.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 85.0.
