MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore right-hander Zach Keenan has been named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week for his dominating start versus Bowling Green in the season opener.
"Keenan had a great outing in the season opener," head coach Jim Toman said. "He consistently got ahead in counts and kept his pitch count down."
The Suwanee, Georgia native is the first pitcher to win the award this season and is the first Blue Raider to earn any player of the week honors since Drew Huff did last season.
Against Bowling Green, Keenan dominated early, going 4 1/3 innings without allowing a baserunner until a Bowling Green bunt ended the perfect game bid. He finished his day going seven innings, giving up just two hits, no walks and striking out four, all while facing the minimum amount of batters (21).
"Being named pitcher of the week feels great," Keenan said. "I was throwing a lot of strikes and attacking the zone which usually creates a recipe for success."
The furthest a Falcon baserunner got was first base against Keenan.
"The run support I received and solid defense made everything that much easier."
The Blue Raiders return to action Thursday at home against Northern Illinois as part of the Mule Mix Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
