MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's basketball enters the weekend on a bit of a hot streak, winning four of their last six outing including a home-and-home sweep of UAB last week.
Sophomore Donovan Sims knocked down a clutch three-pointer that proved to provide the winning points late in the first win before knocking down two game-winning free throws in the second.
The Blue Raiders hot streak has come from some high-level shooting performances as MT is now 7-3 on the season when they shoot 43 percent or better from the field. In the most recent win over UAB, the Raiders were 50 percent from the field and a season-best 50 percent from three point range as well.
Forward Reggie Scurry has led the surge in shooting percentages for the Blue Raiders and currently leads Conference USA with a field goal percentage of 65.9 percent in league play.
Charlotte visits Murfreesboro under the direction of first-year head coach Ron Sanchez, who took the helm after spending nine years under Tony Bennett at Virginia. The new-look 49ers emphasize defense much like Sanchez's former team and allow the fifth fewest points per game in the league.
The 49ers aren't without offense, however, as senior Jon Davis is Conference USA's second leading scorer at 21.5 points per game.
The Blue Raiders are 7-1 against Charlotte and have won the last seven in a row, all since joining Conference USA, and are 2-0 against the 49ers in Murphy Center.
Thursday's game between MT and Charlotte will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
