MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following a convincing 18-point win against the Charlotte 49ers on Thursday, Middle Tennessee men's basketball is back in action Saturday as they host the first place Old Dominion Monarchs at 6:00 p.m.
A stifling defensive effort in the second half that limited the Niners to just 22 points allowed the Blue Raiders to stretch a 4-point halftime lead out to 18, but there was plenty to be excited about on offense as well.
Junior Antonio Green has been on fire of late for Middle Tennessee, particularly from downtown, as he's hit 17 total 3-pointers in his last three outings after nailing seven trifectas to collect a game-high 21 points on Thursday.
The win gave Middle Tennessee three in a row on the year and eight in a row against Charlotte, but the Blue Raiders have a couple more perfect record to protect when the Monarchs enter Murphy Center. MT is 2-0 this season against teams holding the first place spot in Conference USA with home wins against UTSA and UAB and astonishingly holds a 9-0 record all-time against a storied Old Dominion program.
The Monarchs are led by seniors B.J. Stith and Ahmad Caver, a guard duo that combines for 35.5 points per game with each ranking among the Top 9 scorers in Conference USA.
Despite spending much of his time on the wings, Stith also leads the Monarchs in rebounding (7.7) while Caver ranks third in C-USA in assists at 5.5 per outing.
Saturday's game between the Blue Raiders and Monarchs will tip off at 6:00 p.m. and is set to be televised on Stadium.
