Women's Tennis Drops Match to ODU
2/8/2019 9:03:00 PM | Women's Tennis
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a disappointing trip to south Florida last weekend, Middle Tennessee's women's tennis returned home looking to reverse its fortunes in its first in-conference match of the year.
Perhaps the cold weather outside had its effect on the team, though, as it wasn't able to heat things up on the court in a 6-1 loss to Old Dominion.
Senior Kim Kermet provided a spark by winning her first singles match of the season 7-6, 6-4 over ODU's Oleksandra Andrieeva. After a hard-fought singles win at Florida Gulf Coast last week, which included an 11-9 third-set win, Luisa Zirilli couldn't get herself back in the win column today. The Italian native dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision.
Junior Marta Peris Herrera wasn't able to muster a win in back-to-back weeks as she fell 3-6, 2-6. In doubles play, Lee Barnard and Costanza Maggazini fought their way to a 4-4 tie on court two, but wound up going unfinished due to a pair of 6-2 Blue Raider losses on courts one and three.
