Antonini lifts Raiders past Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Junior Aaron Antonini played heroics Friday night, driving in the go-ahead RBI in the 10th inning as Middle Tennessee (5-4) beat Memphis (2-6) by a score of 2-1.
The Blue Raiders once again found themselves in a pitchers' duel, with both teams combining for just 12 hits across 10 innings.
Right-hander Grant Williams made the most of his first appearance of the season. The starter went 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. Williams' key to success was changing up the speed of his pitches.
"I feel like my curveball was keeping hitters off balance today," Williams said. "My fastball was creating a change of eye level and it helped my curveball be more effective."
But along with the Tigers, the Blue Raiders were stifled on offense.
MT finally got on the board in the top of the sixth when Antonini poked a single to left field to score Darien Prewett. But Antonini wasn't finished there.
After Memphis tied the game in the seventh, the teams we in a deadlock until the 10th inning. With two outs in the inning, Nick Carnevale wrapped a double down the left field line to put himself in scoring position for the cool and calm Antonini.
"My approach at the plate was to stay loose and have fun because I know I play my best when I'm having fun," Antonini said.
The catcher would go on to blast a double to left center for the game winning hit. Antonini led all hitters with three hits, and drove in both RBIs for the Blue Raiders
In relief of Williams, Scheldon Paulk picked up the win, going 2.2 innings and striking out three for his first decision of the season. Captain Tyler Holcombe secured the victory, picking up his second save of the season.
The Blue Raiders will finish out the series with Memphis tomorrow. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
