LEXINGTON, Ky. – Middle Tennessee (5-10) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Kentucky (11-4) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-0, and 5-4.
GAME ONE
The Wildcats used a six run seventh inning to pull ahead late in game one, winning by a final of 7-0.
It was a pitchers' duel up until that seventh inning, with both teams combining for just three hits through the first six innings.
Right-hander Carson Lester got the start for the Blue Raiders and put together his best start this season. Lester went 6.1 innings, amassing 111 pitches on his way to striking out seven Wildcats.
On the other side, Grant Macciocchi was just as impressive for Kentucky. The junior also went 6.1 innings, giving up just one hit, a double to Aaron Antonini.
In relief of Lester, Both Grant Williams and AJ Spencer combined for the final 2.2 innings.
GAME TWO
The Blue Raiders led late until Ryan Shinn hit a two-run walk off homerun in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Wildcats to victory, 5-4.
Middle Tennessee went back-to-back in the second inning when Brycen Thomas and Blake Benefield both smashed no-doubters to left field. It was the first time that the Blue Raiders hit back-to-back home runs since Austin Dennis and Ryan Kemp did so last season against Kent State.
Nick Carnevale would deliver the biggest hit of the day for the Blue Raiders when he pulled a two-out single to left field to score two runs in the sixth inning. Carnevale led the Blue Raiders with three hits in game two.
MT again got a quality start in game two from Peyton Wigginton. Wigginton went six innings, striking out eight while walking zero.
Although the Wildcats came into the series with 38 stolen bases and top five in the nation in that category, they were only able to snag four against the Blue Raiders over the weekend.

Middle Tennessee travels to Tuscaloosa to take on another SEC team in Alabama Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
