STATESBORO, Ga. – Head Men's Golf Coach Mark McEntire takes his squad back on the road this week as the Blue Raiders tee off in the Schenkel Invitational Friday morning.
The tournament, hosted by Georgia Southern at the Par 72, 6,692-yard Forest Heights Country Club, features three days of play with 18holes scheduled for each day.
Middle Tennessee joins Conference USA foe UAB as well as Army, College of Charleston, ETSU, Georgia State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, UCF and Virginia Tech in the 15-team field.
"The Schenkel is one of the very best tournaments in college golf," McEntire stated. "The golf course is really good and one that I feel fits this team very well."
Coming off of individual medalist honors in Puerto Rico, senior Marcus Byrd is back leading the Blue Raider lineup alongside classmate James Beckner, junior Tanner Owens, sophomore Cooper Sears and freshman Palmer Sadlowski.
Byrd and Sears started the spring off strong for Middle Tennessee with back-to-back Conference USA Player of the Week selections in the squad's first two tournaments of the semester.
The Schenkel Invitational begins a stretch of five tournaments in the final weeks of the season with the Blue Raiders finishing the heaviest portion of its schedule at the Conference USA Championship in late April in hopes of returning to the NCAA Regionals.
"This is the start of a run of five tournaments in a row," McEntire stated. "I was happy with the play in Puerto Rico and want to now continue building on that.
"I am excited to play this week and want to get better every week heading into conference."
The event tees off Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET with split tee times off holes one and 10. Live scoring can be followed at GolfStat.com.
