Blue Raiders Hold Off Late Rally for the Win Over Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Middle Tennessee's women's tennis took an early 3-0 lead but held out a late Tulane rally thanks to Marta Peris Herrero with the straight set clincher on Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders took the first point in the match by winning at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Costanza Magazzini and Zani Barnard fell to the No. 62 duo Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller 6-4 putting MT behind. The last two matches came to tiebreakers as Luisa Zirilli and Kim Kermet took their match 7-5 setting up the doubles point clincher on Lidia Burrows and Marta Peris Herrero. The two Raiders which held a 4-5 record this season took the match 7-6 (7-4) in an dramatic fashion.
The Lady Raiders blew out to a 3-0 lead after a huge momentum boost as Costanza Magazzini and Luisa Zirilli quickly took their matches in straight sets. Zirilli is now 10-4 in singles matches which is the team leader in wins. Tulane responded strongly by taking wins in singles No. 2 and 3 to put the Greenwave on the doorstep of their sixth win. Marta Peris Herrero had a different idea as she put the nail in the coffin for the sixth win of the Blue Raiders season in straight sets. That was her third straight win.
