Blue Raiders fall despite stellar pitching from Lester

Murfreesboro, Tenn.-- Carson Lester took the mound on a gorgeous Friday afternoon at Reese Smith Field in search of his first win of the season. The senior gave his team one of his best performances thus far, going eight innings while giving up only two earned runs and matching his season-high in strikeouts with seven. However, the Murfreesboro native's effort wasn't enough to get him in the win column, as Middle Tennessee couldn't get the bats going in a 5-1 loss to Louisiana Tech.
"Lester competed for eight innings and did really well," said MTSU Head Coach Jim Toman. "Lester kept us in the game until the end. If we got a bloop here or there and somebody hits one out, we could've easily had a tie ballgame."
After a pair of defensive miscues in the fourth inning led to the first two runs of the game for the Bulldogs, MTSU catcher Aaron Antonini was able to put a dent in the lead just a half-inning later. The junior catcher clubbed a one-ball, one-strike fastball over the right field fence and onto the MTSU football team's practice field for his second home run of the season. The Hollywood, Florida, native reached base a team-high three times, propelling his average to .316 on the season, which is highest on the team (minimum 20 at-bats).
A couple of Blue Raiders extended their hitting streaks tonight despite the offensive struggles. After making a nifty sliding stop and throw to first for an out in the third inning, second baseman Nick Carnevale extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-out base-knock in the bottom of the fourth inning. Darien Prewett extended his hitting-streak to a career-high five games tonight by notching a pair of singles. The speedy centerfielder's average has been steadily climbing, as he's now hitting at a .293 clip.
MTSU continues its' series with Louisiana Tech tomorrow afternoon at Reese Smith Field. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
