Raiders Look to Continue Early Momentum at the Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men and women's track and field teams prepare for their next outdoor meet in Knoxville, the Tennessee Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee. The team will compete in the three-day meet at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13.
Egbeniyi Claims C-USA Weekly Honor
Middle Tennessee senior Abike Egbeniyi was named Female Track Athlete of the Week by the Conference USA office this week. Egbeniyi earned Middle Tennessee's third weekly award this outdoor season for her performance in the women's 400-meter dash at the Tiger Track Classic this past weekend.
The Lagos, Nigeria native claimed first-place in the 400-meter event last weekend with a time of 52.64, her best of the outdoor season. The mark is the best in the conference and good for 11th in the nation.
Likewise, Egbeniyi was the anchor in the women's 4x400 team, who claimed first-place at the Auburn hosted event. The relay team claimed gold after crossing the line first with a time of 3:44.68.
Last Time Out | Tiger Track Classic
Last weekend, Middle Tennessee claimed six first-place finishes at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University.
Fabian Edoki claimed the first Middle Tennessee top-finish of the Classic, claiming first-place in the men's long jump event. Edoki jumped a distance of 7.86m on his third pass of the afternoon.
As a relay team, Ida Mensah, Mirlege Castor, Cecilia Francis, and Edidiong Odiong notched gold in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.79. Simiarly, the women's 4x400-meter relay notched first with a time of 3:44.68.
In the women's 800-meter race, Abike Egbeniyi claimed first-place, crossing the line at 52.64.
Meanwhile on the field, Isaac Odugbesan notched gold in the men's shot put event, recording a distance of 17.63m. The sophomore inked his best throw on his third pass of the field event.
Kigen Chemadi claimed first in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Chemadi crossed the line with a time of 8:55.47, 16 seconds faster than the second place finsher.
