C-USA Tournament Preview: No. 6-seed UTSA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. –Middle Tennessee's men's tennis faces their first challenge of the Conference USA tournament against 6-seed UTSA on Friday at 2pm at Adams Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders (15-11) earned the No. 3 seed in the league tournament in seeding determined off the most recent ITA rankings. The event will open at 10 a.m. on Friday before MT squares off with the Roadrunners in the second session of opening day.

MT have been a powerhouse this season when it comes to taking the first point. Out of the 16 double points won this season, 12 of them ended in full match wins for the Blue Raiders. Look for this to be the key for a successful weekend.

Scouting Report: This will be the 6th meeting between the Blue Raiders and Roadrunners. UTSA comes into Fridays match with a 14-9 record this year and a 5-8 record away. They have won three out of the last seven matches with a 7-0 sweep of Southland Conference UIW. Last season, UTSA finished 13-14 overall and lost to FAU in the opening round of the C-USA Tournament, 4-2.

Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore/Pavel Motl – The No. 3 doubles pair has been on fire this season. Together, they are 18-6 overall.
Pavel Motl – leads the team in singles with 23 wins and is tied with the lead in double wins with 23. He has cracked the top 10 freshman win record in singles and doubles with his outstanding season so far. Not including, Motl has won six-straight matches.
Max Rauch – the fiery junior played hero in the match against ETSU as he clutched out the clinching win for the Blue Raiders. He is 21-13 in singles and has won back-to-back doubles matches.

Record Watch
Pavel Motl has 23 singles wins and 23 doubles wins this season, which enters him into the top 10 All-Freshman season singles and doubles wins in MTSU history. In singles, he is tied for 6th and in doubles he is ranked at No. 3.
Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore has moved to No. 7 all-time in MTSU history with a combined wins in doubles (76) and singles (77) with 153. Morell has cracked the top 10 career single wins and doubles wins at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. He also ranks No. 9 in Doubles Winning Percentage with an astounding 64.4% (76-42).
