Blue Raiders Survive UTSA Rally

Sitjn Slump propels MT to semifinals
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis survived a late rally from UTSA thanks to the heroics from freshman Stijn Sump who propelled the Raiders to tomorrow's C-USA semifinals.
Sitjn Slump had all eyes on him with the Raiders season on the line as he came in clutch saving three match points. After falling in the first set 6-1, Slump became more aggressive with his shots and forced a third set with a 6-3 win. He took the challenge head strong and pulled out the clutch three set tiebreaker win for the Blue Raiders when they needed him the most.
The start of the match went exactly the way the Blue Raiders drew it up and what they have been doing all season long. MT came out hot in doubles play as they took the first match-up on court one with No. 86 duo Chris Edge and Tom Moonen, 6-1. Gonzalo Morell and Pavel Motl matched their success with a dominate win of their own on court three, 6-2.
The Blue Raiders quickly built a 3-0 lead after Chris Edge and Gonzalo Morell clinched their matches in straight sets, but the Roadrunners responded. They took courts three, four and six to knot things up at 3-3.
Coach Jimmy Borendame added after the match, "Guys fought hard for this win. Credit to UTSA, they are young and well coached. We let our guard down but Sitjn Slump found a way to save 3 match points and get the job done. I believe we learned that as a whole team we need to be fully engaged every match. I'm looking for more support in another tough match tomorrow."
