CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the third time this season the Blue Raiders comeback from losing doubles point to pulling out the come-from-behind 4-2 win, thanks to Tom Moonen for the clincher on Friday afternoon.
Tom Moonen had all eyes on him as he was in the third set with the match in his hands. He took the challenge head strong and pulled out the clutch three set win for the Blue Raiders when they needed him most. For the third time this season, MT delivers the team win after not taking doubles point.
The start of the match did not go the way the Raiders had expected. Charlotte took the first point of the match by winning on courts two and three. Pavel Motl and Gonzalo Morell who have been hot the past few weeks fell on court two in 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker stumping the duo's six-win streak. No. 67 duo Chris Edge and Tom Moonen took care of their business 6-3 on the first court.
Max Rauch quickly came out of singles with straight set wins tying the score up at 1s. The 49ers responded with their second point of the match but the Blue Raiders battled tough and stuck in it. Out of the six matches, four of them went to three sets. Chris Edge was one of them and was a key match for the MT win. He was on the verge of winning in straight sets but Henry Lieberman came back to force a third set. Edge didn't let it get to his head as he came out on top scooping the third point before Tom Moonen played hero for the win. The Blue Raiders are peaking at the right time.
