INDIANAPOLIS – Middle Tennessee baseball, women's golf, men's cross country and women's tennis have all earned Public Recognition Awards this Spring as released by the NCAA on Wednesday. The four teams are the most recognized by the NCAA in Middle Tennessee history and the fourth time overall that at least three teams have been honored.
Baseball, led by first year head coach Jim Toman, is being recognized for the second straight year after compiling an impressive score of 996. The awards are based on the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate.
Blue Raider women's golf, led by 12th-year head coach Chris Adams, was recognized for the sixth straight year. The Blue Raiders have a perfect score of 1000.
Men's Cross Country earned the recognition for the first time since 2011-12 and own a mark of 1000, while women's tennis also owns a perfect score of 1000. Women's tennis was honored for the first time in school history.
These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in their respective sport with their APRs.
"For us to have four teams recognized is a testament to the student-athletes who work extremely hard in the class room on a daily basis," Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said. "This is a terrific honor and one we should all be proud of at Middle Tennessee. I also want to thank the Student-Athlete Enhancement Center staff and their continued commitment to academics."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Below is a complete listing of past Blue Raider teams receiving the Public Recognition Award. For more information on the Academic Progress Rate, please log on to www.ncaa.org.
