Seven Raiders Claim Champion Titles at C-USA Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Middle Tennessee rounds off the 2019 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earing seven champion titles. Kigen Chemadi excelled during his championship weekend, earning three individual champion titles over the weekend. Similarly, Abike Egbeniyi posted a new meet and facility record in her respective event.
Overall the men's team finished second with 117 points, while the women's team finished in fourth place with 81 points in the championships.
Respectively, Chemadi earned the Male High Point Scorer of the Meet honors, after claiming three champion titles. Similarly, freshman Brian Rono earned Co-Male Freshman of the Meet accolades for his performance at the 2019 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Top Finishes of Sunday's Championship
Eusila Chepkemei earned silver in the women's 1,500-meter final on Sunday afternoon. The sophomore crossed the line with a time of 4:27.30. Meanwhile, Joice Jebor claimed eighth in the event with a time of 4:43.38. On the men's side, Chemadi claimed his first champion title of the afternoon in the 1,500-meter event. The junior crossed the line with a time of 3:55.06 while his Blue Raider teammate, Brian Rono claimed silver with a time of 3:55.27.
In the women's 400-meter race, Joycelyn Assafuah notched bronze in the finals. Assafuah claimed her third place finish, crossing the line at 53.96. For the men, Willington Wright just missed his spot on the podium, recording fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.00.
Edidiong Odiong and Cecilia Francis crossed the line back-to-back as Odiong claimed third in the 100-meter event with a time of 11.61, as Francis crossed .05 seconds slower to notch fourth in the event.
In the women's 800-meter, Abike Egbeniyi made history again, beating her own meet record and broke the previous meet record in the finals action on Sunday. The senior inked a time of 2:04.54, propelling her to the champion title in the event. Likewise, three other Blue Raiders placed among the top-six in the event, including Chepkemei (3rd, 2:05.94), Patience Akanwogba (5th, 2:08.33), and Quanisha Marshall (6th. 2:16.08).
On the men's side, Tre'Von Sanders posted a first-place finish to earn the champion title in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:50.95. Meanwhile, Brian Rono placed third with a time of 1:52.45.
Odiong and Francis posted top-five finishes in the women's 200-meter finals. Odiong claimed silver in the final event, with a time of 23.20 while Francis placed fourth with a time of 23.92.
In the men's 5,000-meter event, Kigen Chemadi claimed his third champion title of the outdoor championships with a time of 14:15.34. Meanwhile, Thobile Mosito claimed silver in the event, crossing the line with a time of 14:17.43.
On the field, Isaac Odugbesan notched gold in the men's shot put on Sunday afternoon. Odugbesan's best mark was a distance of 18.37m, securing the champion title.

The top 48 individuals in each event will be accepted along with the top 24 relay teams. For those that qualify during preliminary rounds, the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
