NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Track & Field saw several top marks to open the indoor season at Vanderbilt.
Six Blue Raiders found themselves on the podium at the Commodore Winter Challenge; Xarya Udoumana and Viktoria Rusnakova placed second and third in the Women's Long Jump Invite, Mackdonald Songok and Privillege Chikara both placed first in the Men and Women's Mile, Joel Iheakolam took third in the Men's Triple Jump and Juan Lucas De La Fluente finished second in the Men's 1000m.
Two of the Middle Tennessee podium finishers clocked a PR in their respective races. Chikara bested her Mile time, pushing her previous time of 4:50.56 to 4:49.08, and Lucas De La Fluente shaved almost four seconds off of his previous 1000m time for a new mark of 2:27.59. Evan Ross joined Lucas De La Fluente in besting his 1000m time during today's race.
The Women's 1k squad also had a stellar outing, all three Blue Raiders setting a new personal best in the event. Lauren Cole, Emma Thomas and Hailee Gorham all finished side-by-side in the 1000m finals as they each set new PRs.
Another impressive highlight of the meet came from Mustapha Bokpin. In his first race as a Blue Raider, Bokpin broke the Middle Tennessee 300m record with a mark of 33.59, surpassing the previous time of 33.96 set by Willington Wright in 2020.
Along with Bokpin, Gabe Allen, Emerson Brinkmeier, Agu Chidinma, Mariah Ivery, Ella Miller, Julia Peebles, Arianna Thomas and Evan Tomlinson all made their first appearances for Middle Tennessee Track & Field during today's meet. Allen competed in the Mile, Brinkmeier and Miller ran the 60m Hurdles, Chidinma and Ivery raced in the 600m, Peebles competed in the 300m, Thomas debuted in the Triple Jump and Evan Tomlinson ran both the 60m and the 300m.
