Raiders Eliminated from NISC by Stephen F. Austin

Nacogdoches, Texas- The Middle Tennessee softball team was eliminated from the National Invitational Softball Championship on Friday. The Raiders (29-30) were led offensively by two hits from Claire Smith in the 4-0 loss to the Jacks (36-22).
Corrina Dodd started the game for the Raiders and cruised through the first three innings. Dodd allowed one hit and struck out three, the first time through the Jacks' order. However, the wheels fell off for the young pitcher in the fourth inning, Dodd allowed two Jacks home runs that translated to four runs. The Alabama native was pulled after recording one out in the fourth.
Dodd turned duties in center circle over to Gretchen Mead. The freshmen pitched the final three and two thirds innings and allowed no runs, on no hits, and walked one. This outing marked the longest of the season for Mead, her previous came in the final game of the regular season when she pitched two innings against North Texas.
The Raiders could only mustard three hits against the Jacks' pitching, two came off the bat of Claire Smith. Smith finished the game with two stolen bases to go along with her pair of singles. The other Raider hit was a double from Kaylyn Slatter to leadoff the bottom of the seventh. The Middle Tennessee offense failed to plate her from scoring position and were eliminated from the NISC, 4-0.
Summer Burgess and Ryan King took home regional honors for their play in the in the four team Nacogdoches regional bracket.
The Raiders finish the season with a record of 29-30 and 11-13 in Conference USA.
