Antonini drafted by St. Louis Cardinals in 18th round

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Aaron Antonini was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.
Antonini was with his family and friends at his home in Hollywood, Florida when he was selected.
"When I heard my name called, it was a dream come true," Antonini said. "I was on the phone with the scout who was congratulating me on becoming a Cardinal."
Antonini's hard work last offseason paid dividends this spring as the junior catcher was one of the most consistent bats in the Blue Raiders lineup, even while starting 54 games behind the plate.
"I'm proud of Aaron for being drafted today," head coach Jim Toman said. "He was a workhorse for us behind the plate and was our most consistent player."
The catcher led the team in almost every offensive category through the first 30 games and led the team in multiple-RBI games (15). He also led Conference USA with 24 runners caught stealing.
"I felt happy, excited, blessed – just all of the emotions," Antonini said.
