Blue Raiders Open Season on the Road in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Middle Tennessee Women's Soccer will officially kick off the regular season in on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. as the Blue Raiders head on the road to take on Evansville Aces.
Thursday's match will be streamed live on ESPN+ (link) and live stats will be available (link).
LOOKING BACK
Last week, the Raiders faced two opponents in exhibition style. First being Northern Kentucky in Orange Beach, AL with a 2-1 final going to the ladies in blue. Middle Tennessee next hosted regional foe Lipscomb at Dean Hayes Stadium, but the Bison would take the match 4-1 after a knotted first half score.
Entering its 24th season opener on Thursday, Blue Raiders have put together a 9-11-3 all-time record in season openers and have won three of its last five season-opening matches.
Conference USA Freshman of the Year Hannah Tillett led all Blue Raiders with a pair of goals in the exhibitions, scoring in each match. The reigning C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, Peyton DePriest added on to the scoring with one of her own in the opening half of the NKU match. All of the MT scores came in the opening 45 minutes.
In goal, senior Sydney Chalcraft was given the start in both games but freshmen Hannah Suder and Ida Forsberg played significant minutes. Coach Rhoden says the GK spot has been a battle all preseason long.
All of the freshmen made an instant impact in the exhibitions for the Blue Raiders.
LOOKING AHEAD
Evansville have won one, loss one and tied one in their three preseason exhibition matches scheduled and only put three balls in the back of the net. Their opener was 2-1 winner for the Purple Aces on Aug. 13 against Canisus, but went scoreless in the second match against Niagara 0-0. Finally, the Aces dropped a 2-1 decision against Eastern Illinois on Aug. 18.
The Aces finished 4-12-3 in 2018 and will be facing the Blue Raiders for the first time since 2017 which went to OT; the Blue Raiders own an impressive 4-1 all-time record in the series and have outscored Evansville 13-9 across those five matches.
Emily Ormson and Maggie Leazer, Evansville's two goal leaders return combining for six goals a season ago, Last year, Evansville struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only 13 goals in 19 matches and being shut out 11 times.
NEXT UP
Following Thursday's game, Middle Tennessee will return for the home opener in a marquee non-conference match with Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. (CT). That matchup will be the seventh meeting between the Blue Raiders and the Governers since 2002. The Raiders lead the series 4-2 Sunday's match will be carried live on the Conference USA Digital.
