Volleyball Falls to Charlotte in Four Sets

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell to Charlotte in four sets by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 13-25. The Blue Raiders fall to 6-9 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the 49ers improve to 10-7 on the year and 1-1 in the league.
Freshman Kayla Henley led the team in attacks with 15 total on the match, and dished out 10 digs to record her fourth double-double on the year. Dora Peonia finished with 11 kills and 15 digs to record her eighth double-double on the season. Bri Tankesley led the team defense with a total 16 digs on the match. Taylor Hammill tallied 45 assists and 12 digs, her sixth double-double, and recorded five kills.
Set-By-Set
The Blue Raiders had a 3-2 lead at the start of set one before Charlotte went on a 3-0 run to take the lead. The 49ers held on to the lead throughout the set, but MT kept it close and came within two at 19-17. Charlotte continued with the lead and eventually took the set, 25-21. Mikaela Weidmann led the offense in set one with four kills.
A Henley kill gave the Blue Raiders the first point of set two, followed by back-to-back kills from Weidmann and Henley again to take a 3-1 lead. MT continued to lead for the rest of the set, and had a 17-13 lead at one point after a Weidmann kill. A Peonia kill gave the Blue Raiders set point, followed by a Charlotte attacking error to claim the set, 25-20. Urte Neimantatie led the attacks with six kills and Tankesley saw eight digs alone in set two.
In set three, the Blue Raiders had a 5-3 lead after a Peonia kill, but the 49ers tied it up 5-5. The two teams went point-for-point until Charlotte went on a 3-0 run to take the lead. The Blue Raiders came within one at 22-21 with a swing from Henley, but Charlotte went on a 2-0 run and eventually took the set 25-23.
Charlotte got to a 4-0 lead before MT put a point on the board. The 49ers went on a 3-0 run to take a bigger lead, 9-3. Charlotte kept the lead the rest of set four, and claimed the set 25-13 to take the match.

- Dora Peonia has led the team attacks on four occasions and has recorded eight double-doubles on the season.
- Urte Neimantaite dished out a career-high 19 kills against Tennessee Tech and has one double-double. She has also led the team attacks on seven occasions.
- Taylor Hammill is 71 assists away from hitting the 2,000 assists mark. She has also recorded six double-doubles this season. Hammill is ranked 20th in the nation for total assists and third in the conference for assists per set.
- Hammill has a season-high 52 assists and 18 digs.
- Bri Tankesley is 70 digs away from the 1,000 digs mark with 930 total. She also recorded a career-high four aces against Alabama A&M and a season-high 24 digs against Southern Illinois. Tankesley leads the team in aces with a total 18 on the season.
- Kayla Henley has recorded four double-doubles on the season. She also tallied a career-high 19 digs against Western Illinois.
- Marley Banton is ranked fourth in the conference for service aces per set. She has a total 16 aces and an average 0.41 aces per set.
- Mikaela Weidmann leads the team in blocks with 44.0.
