Volleyball Splits Final Two Matches at Bulldog Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team split its two games at the Bulldog Invitational Saturday at the Justice Center.
The Blue Raiders (2-1) started the day with a sweep of Boise State (1-2) before losing the nightcap to UNC Asheville (2-1) 3-1.
Game One: Middle Tennessee 3, Boise State 0
After winning its opening game of the season against the Broncos Friday, MTSU rematched with the Idaho school Saturday.
Similarly to Friday, the Blue Raiders won the first two sets. However, a Boise State comeback attempt was not in the cards Saturday as MTSU closed the contest with a 25-18 set three victory.
Sophia Henry led the way offensively for Middle Tennessee, picking up 11 kills, while Michaela Dlouha and Marianne Garcia led the way defensively with six blocks and 15 digs, respectively.
Henry's four blocks and four block assists tied career highs for the junior.
Game Two: Middle Tennessee 1, UNC Asheville 3
MTSU lost its weekend closer to UNC Asheville.
After a decisive 25-17 victory in the first set, the Blue Raiders lost a tight second set 28-26. The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the third set, inning 25-21.
Needing to win the fourth set to stay alive, Middle Tennessee put up a hard battle, including a four-point rally to take a 16-15 lead, but ultimately lost after forcing another deadlock at 24-24 as UNC Asheville scored the needed consecutive points to put the match away.
Henry led the way offensively for MTSU, picking up 12 kills. Gabrielle Clinkscale followed with eight. Veronica Sierzant assisted 31 in the match.
Defensively, Addison Burks picked up 11 digs, followed by Kendall Mignerey with 10. Logan Carr and Michaela Dlouha both had six blocks to lead the Blue Raiders.

Middle Tennessee heads up north to Nashville Sept. 4-6, heading to the Belmont Invitational. The Blue Raiders open Friday versus Samford before playing South Alabama Saturday and finally the hosting Bruins Sunday.
Notes
--Caroline Macander hit 1,000 career assists versus UNC Asheville. The graduate becomes the ninth player in program history to achieve the 1,000 assist mark. Macander trails Jacqueline Lux (1,108) for all-time assists in program history.
--MTSU now owns the all-time series lead over Boise State 2-1.
--UNC Asheville tied the all-time series 1-1 for the two programs with Saturday's win.
