Blue Raiders Return to Birmingham

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track and field teams are headed to Birmingham, Ala. this weekend to compete in the Green and Gold Invitational where they will face 11 other men's teams and 14 women's teams, along with seven club teams.
The Blue Raiders will compete in 23 total events on the weekend, including 16 running events and seven field events. Last weekend, MT competed in the Vanderbilt Invitational where they had nine Top-10 performances. Akera Benton placed in both jump events she competed in, taking 12th in the women's long jump (5.82m) and 15th in the triple jump (11.65m). Brian Rono took fourth place overall in the men's 800-meter run (1:49.83) and Joice Jebor showed out in the women's 3,000-meter run to claim fifth place with a time of 9:40.28.
Jaquez Torian is ranked sixth in the nation and first in Conference USA in the men's 400 meter for his time of 47.01s, which he ran at the Jim Green Invitational. Kigen Chemadi ranks second in the nation and first in the conference for his 3,000 meter time of 8:02.28, and ranks the same in the 5,000 meter with a time of 13:36.82. Jacob Choge ranks third in the nation in the 5,000 meter with a time of 13:38.48.
The meet this weekend will begin Friday at 3 p.m. with the women's weigh throw and the first running event will begin at 4 p.m. The first field event on Saturday will begin approximately at 10 a.m. followed by the first running event at 10:15 a.m.
