Raiders Finish Strong at Indiana Relays

Bloomington, Ind. - The Middle Tennessee track and field teams wrapped up the weekend at the Indiana University Relays with five podium finishes and 17 top-10 finishes overall.
Cecilia Francis qualified for the 60-meter dash finals and finished sixth overall with a time of 7.52s. Willington Wright was quick in the men's 400-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 47.12s.
Quanisha Marshall's time of 1:35.11 in the women's 600-meter run marks a new career-high for the sophomore.
Freshman Mercy Chepkurui showed out in the women's 3,000-meter run, finishing second overall with a personal best time of 10:01.37. In the women's 3,000-meter fast section event, Joice Jebor claimed fourth with a time of 9:28.65, which is also a new personal record. Pamela Kosgei also competed in the event and finished 22nd with a time of 9:59.98.
For the men, Jacob Choge broke his personal record in the men's 3,000-meter fast section with a time of 8:10.39, finishing 10th in the event. Kigen Chemadi followed close behind, finishing 13th with a time of 8:13.78.
Junior Esther Isa continues to impress as she claimed the gold in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.78m, a new personal best.
"Esther Isa in the high jump will be a huge plus for us," said head coach Dean Hayes. "She did a good job with that yesterday."
Akera Benton showed her experience in the women's long jump, finishing third overall and just shy of her personal best,5.96m. Benton also claimed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.43m.
Willington Wright competed in the men's long jump and took seventh place after jumping a distance of 6.94m.

"We had several individual events that went real well," Hayes said. "In some of those distance runs, they didn't get high places, but they got their lifetime bests, so that's the main thing."

The men's 4x400-meter relay concluded the meet and the Blue Raider men's relay A team (Matthew Stewart, Lamarco Petty, Jaquez Torian, Willington Wright) took the gold with a time of 3:12.60. The women's relay A team finished seventh in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.78.
